Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 28, 2026

Short version: Yomijin has no account, ads, analytics, or tracking. Your library and reading activity stay on your device. Network features send only the information needed to fetch feeds, translate text, answer an AI Tutor request, download app data, or process a subscription.

What Yomijin Is

Yomijin is a Japanese reading app for iPhone, iPad, Android, and desktop. It fetches articles from sources you choose, assembles them into editions, and stores your library locally. You do not need to create a Yomijin account or sign in.

Data We Do Not Collect

We do not collect, transmit, or store:

Feeds, Articles, and Downloads

Yomijin makes direct requests from your device to the feed and article URLs you configure. Those sites receive the usual network information, including your IP address and user agent, and may keep logs under their own policies. The optional offline dictionary is downloaded from Yomijin's GitHub release hosting. Yomijin does not receive a copy of your reading history.

Translation and Pronunciation

The “Translate articles to English” setting is on by default. When it is on, article titles and Japanese sentences that are not already cached are sent from your device to Google's translation service, and the returned translations are cached locally. You can turn this off in Settings to keep article text Japanese-only and offline. If you request network pronunciation audio, the selected word may be sent to Google text-to-speech or JapanesePod101. Those services also receive normal network information such as your IP address. Their use of information is governed by their own privacy policies.

AI Tutor

AI Tutor makes no external request until you configure an OpenAI-compatible provider and API key. When you then ask for an explanation, Yomijin sends the selected word, its sentence, the article title when available, and any follow-up question directly from your device to the endpoint you configured. Your endpoint, model choice, and API key are stored locally on your device; the key is used only to authorize those requests. The provider may process or retain requests under its own terms, so review that provider's privacy policy before enabling AI Tutor. Yomijin does not receive or store a copy of these requests on its servers.

Pro Subscriptions and Payments

On iPhone and iPad, subscriptions are purchased and managed through Apple. On Android, they are purchased and managed through Google Play. Apple or Google handles your payment details and sends Yomijin only the product and entitlement information needed to unlock Pro on your device. Yomijin does not receive your card number.

Desktop subscriptions may be processed through Stripe. In that flow:

Payment providers process information under their own privacy policies: Apple, Google, and Stripe.

Local Storage

Your editions, articles, highlights, notes, liked articles, study data, settings, translations, and source list are stored locally on your device. Yomijin does not operate a cloud backup service. You can create a backup from Settings. Local app data is normally removed when you uninstall the app, subject to your platform's backup and restore behavior.

Third-Party Services

Yomijin does not integrate advertising, analytics, crash-reporting, or tracking SDKs. The network services described above are used to provide features you request, not to build a Yomijin advertising profile.

Children's Privacy

Yomijin is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect any information from children.

Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
